Conceived by Japanese architect Yuko Nagayama, the Kumiko-inspired façade, served as the centrepiece for the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. It now graces the returning Women's Pavilion for its second instalment. The Pavilion's façade will be repurposed, marking an unprecedented initiative and forging a connection between the two global expositions.
The Kumiko facade, meticulously crafted and adhering to Japanese tradition, eschews the use of nails. It has undergone a delicate process of disassembly before being carefully reassembled, piece by piece, for the forthcoming Women's Pavilion in Osaka.
This symbolic bridge between Dubai and Osaka serves as a testament to the values of sustainability and craftsmanship, resonating with both the Maison and the Pavilion.
Situated on the Pavilion’s second floor, the WA space will emerge as an agora serving as a confluence for ideas, intellects and perspectives where everyone is invited to partake in the collective endeavour of shaping a brighter future.
The communal space will be dedicated to elevating extraordinary individuals and noteworthy causes, seamlessly weaving a narrative that encompasses both global and local perspective, intricately interwoven with the overarching themes of the Pavilion.
An assembly of experts will be invited to delve into these pressing questions in an intimate setting through panels, talks, exhibitions and demonstrations.
The WA space is curated to centre around six pivotal themes.
